The purpose of the Ak-Sar-Ben Market Lamb Challenge is to provide a one year, educational, interesting and competitive feature for 4-Hers interested in the lamb program at the Ak-Sar-Ben 4-H Stock Show. Modeled after the Calf Challenge Program, this event will select exhibitors based on an application process which includes agricultural related essay questions.
Selected exhibitors will receive an Ak-Sar-Ben purchased lamb to be brought back to the 2014 Stock Show to exhibit. Exhibitors will be paired with a community leader who will serve as mentor during the process.
Previous Lamb Challenge participants are eligible to re-apply as long as they have not been selected overall champion or reserve champion in a previous Ak-Sar-Ben Lamb Challenge Contest.
Schedule
Thursday, Sept. 26th - 9:00 a.m. - All livestock can begin arriving
Friday, Sept. 27th - 7:30 a.m. - Lamb Challenge check-in begins
Friday, Sept. 27th - 11:00 a.m. - All Lamb Challenge must be in the barn
Saturday, Sept. 28th - 7:30 a.m. - Lamb Challenge Show
All Lamb Challenge lambs will have DNA collected on the day the lambs are given away to participating exhibitors. Ak-Sar-Ben staff will collect this and keep on file.
