Special school tours for Omaha area students in grades three and four are conducted each year by members of the Douglas County Extension Agency. Over 2,000 children each year have the opportunity to experience this outstanding educational event. Tour guides discuss agriculture and how it affects everyone's lives. The tours lasts two to three hours as students go through a variety of education sessions and hands-on activities. This program is a terrific opportunity to obtain a mini-lesson in agriculture. This year's stops include: the Purina Mills Animal Zone with a visiting farrowing exhibit where kids can see baby pigs being born, Nebraska Department of Agriculture and an interactive, educational stage show called the Thank a Farmer® Magic Show which is an engaging entertainment show that tests viewer's knowledge of agriculture through magic, storytelling and music.

Each year the Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben Foundation produces a free publication designed to educate 3rd and 4th grade students on the history of agriculture in Omaha, the state of Nebraska along with ARCR history and information and is an excellent teaching resource! School Chronicles are available for area 3rd & 4th grade teachers to distribute in the Fall each school year. Each year 50,000 book covers depicting agriculture scenes and information are distributed to school age children throughout the area free of charge.
